The Palmwoods branch of the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QCWA) were awarded the Healthy Towns 2018 Connections with People Award.
The Palmwoods QCWA provided activities and support for people of all ages, including the frail aged and socially isolated. We provide an affordable facility for the greater Sunshine Coast area with equipment and pricing that removes barriers to holding events, and cost of participation. Activities held in the hall include creative arts, health and fitness classes, healthy eating programs, community meetings, men’s groups, children’s drama, and nursing education. The hall is also available for private and community functions.
In 2018, the organisation commenced a subsidised craft, textiles and sewing project to teach traditional skills to people of all ages. The goal of the project is to reduce waste by up-cycling, increase participation/reduce social isolation, build relationships between generations and encourage community cohesion, and increase skills that lead a sense of achievement and enjoyment in life, and potentially employment for some.
